ASCII Bar Chart Generator
Show labeled numbers in a README, terminal or plain-text report without an image. Edit the sample data, choose a bar width, then generate and copy the result.
No account, upload or charting library needed. The sample is ready to copy.
Your plain-text chart
3 bars, 52 total columns
Design | #################### 12 Build | ######################################## 24 Test | ############################## 18 Scale: 40 # = 24; . = less than one #.
Bars share a zero baseline and scale to the largest value. Whole cells round down; a dot marks a positive value below one cell. Zero stays blank. The original numeric text and scale travel with every export.
Use comparable numbers
Put a label and a non-negative number on each line, separated by one comma. Blank lines are ignored; an optional first header is Label,Value. Labels are trimmed, but their order and duplicate names are kept. All rows should use the same unit. Include that unit in the surrounding document.
Decimal points and scientific notation work. Thousands separators, quoted CSV fields, negative values, tabs and non-ASCII labels do not. Errors identify the line instead of skipping it. This is a simple two-column input, not a full CSV importer.
Keep the scale and exact values
The largest value fills the chosen bar width. Other lengths round down on the same linear scale; a dot marks a positive value smaller than one character. A zero has no bar, and an all-zero dataset is labeled explicitly. Bars are approximate; the number beside each bar keeps your original notation.
Copy as Markdown includes a fenced code block. TXT keeps the same characters and line breaks. Use a monospace font with wrapping off, and review the total width in your destination. For letter banners, use the FIGlet text generator; for a framed note, use the ASCII box generator.
Input is limited to 4,096 UTF-16 units, 40 data rows, 32 characters per label and 24 per number. Values outside the finite JavaScript number range are rejected; bar lengths use exact decimal ratios. Formatting runs in your browser; data is not saved by this tool or put in links. Site analytics, storage and hosting are separate. See the developer examples for README formatting.
