ASCII Table Generator
Paste a small spreadsheet selection and turn its cells into a plain-text table. Keep task lists, comparisons and terminal reports aligned without counting spaces by hand.
Tab-separated input. Printable ASCII output. No account needed.
Your ASCII table
26 columns, 6 lines
+--------+-------+-------+ | Task | Owner | State | +========+=======+=======+ | Build | Mira | Done | | Review | Leo | Next | +--------+-------+-------+
All cells are left-aligned. Use a monospace font with wrapping off. Copy as Markdown adds a fenced code block, not a semantic Markdown table.
A small task table for your README
The initial fictional example has three rows and three columns. Its input is below; the gaps are actual tabs. Keep First row is a header checked, generate, then use Copy as Markdown and preview the fenced block in your README.
Task Owner State Build Mira Done Review Leo Next
Task needs six characters for Review, Owner needs five and State needs five. Each column adds one padding space on either side, with four boundary characters. The result is 26 characters wide. The equals-sign rule separates the header from the data; turn it off if every row is data. All cells, including numbers, stay left-aligned.
Tabs are separators, not display widths
Copy a rectangular selection from a spreadsheet, or prepare plain TSV with actual tab characters. Commas and runs of spaces are literal cell text, not separators. This tool does not parse CSV quoting, escaped tabs, multiline cells or existing ASCII tables. Each row must contain the same number of cells. An empty last cell still needs its preceding tab.
Leading and trailing cell spaces and empty cells are preserved. One final line break is accepted, and Windows CRLF line endings become LF. Extra blank rows, lone carriage returns, emoji, accented letters and other controls are rejected. Nothing is silently trimmed, truncated or wrapped. The total input limit is 8,000 characters; each of the 2-30 rows has 2-6 cells of at most 40 characters. An entirely empty column gets one content space.
Keep the table readable where you share it
Copy text and TXT contain the exact visible table with LF between lines and no final newline. Copy as Markdown adds a protective code fence, not a rendered Markdown or HTML table. Plain text has no semantic column headers for assistive technology; use your document editor's accessible table feature when that matters. Literal pipes inside cells remain visible and can resemble extra borders; this output is for reading, not machine parsing.
Use a monospace font with wrapping off. The widest allowed result is 259 characters across; reduce cells or columns for a narrow destination. Need a value visualization? Try the ASCII bar chart generator. To compose a whole command-line screen, use the terminal mockup builder.
Formatting runs in your browser. This tool does not save cells or put them in links. Export work before leaving. Site analytics, storage and hosting are separate. See the README and CLI examples for related workflows.
